PROOFING AND COLOUR

Proofing is the point at which content, sequence, reproduction and construction are checked before the full edition is produced. The right proof depends on the decisions the project needs to resolve.

DIGITAL PDF PROOF

A PDF proof is used to review page order, content, trim, margins and basic file preparation. It is not a reliable physical reference for paper, binding or exact printed colour because screens and viewing conditions vary.

PRINTED-SHEET PROOF

A printed-sheet proof helps evaluate image reproduction, density and paper response using the intended print process or an agreed proofing method. It does not demonstrate the behaviour of the finished binding.

FULLY BOUND PROOF

A bound proof allows the complete object to be assessed: page sequence, opening behaviour, gutter, cover construction, materials and overall handling. Some production finishes may require separate tests or may not be economical to reproduce on a single copy.

APPROVAL

The client or designer should review every supplied proof carefully and return corrections in a clear, consolidated form. Production begins only after the relevant proof is approved. Approval confirms the files and physical references accepted for production.
