FOIL, DEBOSSING AND SPECIAL FINISHES

Finishing can make a title, mark or material relationship part of the book's physical identity. The best result depends on the artwork, die, pressure, substrate, placement and production quantity.

FOIL STAMPING

Foil is transferred to the cover with heat and pressure using a custom die. Metallic, pigment and other foil directions can be tested against cloth, paper or board because colour and adhesion vary by material.

BLIND DEBOSSING

Blind debossing presses artwork into the surface without adding colour. Its visibility comes from depth, shadow and the response of the covering material. Fine details and large solid areas should be evaluated before the die is produced.

SCREEN PRINTING AND EDGE COLOURING

Screen printing can add opaque colour and texture to selected cover materials. Edge colouring changes the appearance of the closed book block and should be planned with the paper, binding and handling expectations.

ARTWORK PREPARATION

Finish artwork is normally supplied as clean vector information at final size. Minimum line weights, clearances and registration tolerances depend on the process. BookArt confirms project-specific requirements before production tooling is ordered.
